- Always bring a lint roller. You never know when your sweater will shed like a tiny cat.
- Never give yourself unrealistic timelines. If your finish earlier then you just look like a boss! Do you struggle with creating timelines? Add an extra day to minor projects and a week for larger projects.
- Keep a bag with deodorant, mints, fragrance, lip balm and lotion at your workplace. It is embarrassing to admit how many times those items have come in handy – confrontational meetings still make me very sweaty.
- Going to have a tough conversation? Offer them something to drink like tea or water first. This helps relax the other person and could help create a productive environment.
- Engage in self-care throughout your day. Take a 10-minute walk, call a loved one or complete a short meditation if your day becomes stressful. Life can be challenging, so always take time to appreciate those moments that bring you joy.
- Keep spare tampons at your work. Be a hero for a person that may have accidentally run out!
- Always save 20% of your income. This is more of a life lesson, but having a little nest egg is so important.
- You don’t have to answer every question, and sometimes it can be helpful to reframe the question and pose it back.
- Be true to you – every work culture is different and there will be an adjustment period. However, don’t forget that they picked you. I encourage you to be comfortable in your skin.
- Stop apologizing unless it is truly a mistake. I am still struggling with this one.
